2009--2010 School Year! Welcome Back

Welcome back to all of our old and new members!

This year you have a lot of great ideas that I hope we will be able to bring to full fruition! The number one plan you have on your plate (or at least the one you all seem to be most enthusiastic about) is a school dance.

Your fist tasks to get this underway will be to formulate a proposal for school administration and the school board. You will need to develop a budget and decide what funds you think the school board should help to cover and why.

I know some of you wanted to know, "If this is a 'School Dance' why does Student Council have to pay for it?" Well the simple answer is, by "School" we mean all students in the High School will be invited, rather than that the "School" is sponsoring the dance. Even at standard public schools, student organizations such as Student Council, often sponsor school dances. In our case, we are sponsoring the dance, but we have $0 funds at the moment. And frankly $$ makes the world go round, and we can't really get things moving until we have some oil for the gears (aka $$)

So, what does this mean for your school dance? Well I would suggest that you make a proposal and come up with a contingency plan (or an "Oh crap! The school board won't give us money" plan) Start thinking about other options for how to raise the money to fund your dance and how to collect this money (and for that matter where to store it since we don't have a bank account.) On that note, I will be contacting our PTO president to find out if they would like to help us out, by maybe co-sponsoring the event and helping to collect the funds for this dance :)

Don't forget your discussion boards and our next meeting, on September 25th at 1pm in WIMBA!

Mrs. C.
